Travel Information

PREPARING FOR BELIZE:

Timeline- We are going to be in Belize for 10 days, from Saturday February 7th until Tuesday February 17th. There is a link on the right hand side to an "Early Bird Itinerary" for those of you who are coming down for the week- we will be doing a different activity each day from snorkeling, to a bar crawl, fishing, etc.

You are welcome to come for the week, or just the long weekend. We specifically choose Presidents day weekend so that those who have limited time can still attend- and only miss one day of work!

Sample itinerary: Fly out Thursday February 12th on a late afternoon, evening or red-eye flight, arrive in Belize by 10am on Friday February 13th and enjoy 3 full days on the island. Flights leaving Belize on Monday February 16th, typically leave in the morning giving you plenty of time to get back home.

TRAVEL:

Flights- we strongly recommend watching Kayak's fare advisor for information on price drops- and the best time to buy. LAX has direct flights and most other airports get routed through Houston or Miami. The destination will be Belize City, Phillip S.W. Goldson International Airport.

ONCE YOU ARE IN BELIZE:

You will land in Belize City and need to get to Ambergris Caye from there. There are two ways; Ferry and Propeller plane (operated by both Maya and Tropic Air). We have done both ways, but we recommend if time is not a factor to take the Ferry to Ambergris, and the plane back on Monday. It saves you time and gives you both experiences.

Ferry-  To get to the Ferry, you need to take a shuttle bus or taxi from the airport to the dock. This will take you through Belize City and takes approximately 15 minutes. Once at the dock, the taxi driver will unload you to the ferry luggage area. They will tag and take your luggage and direct you to the ticket stand. I have attached the link to the ferry schedule (above). There is also a renowned pharmacy at the dock for your last minute pain needs. The ferry takes approximately 75 minutes and makes a step on Caye Caulker, a smaller neighboring island, before getting to Ambergris Caye. It will cost you approximately $10-$15 each way.

Flight- Maya Air- A flight on either airline will run between $30-$65 each way depending on the season and demand. The flight is approximately 10+ minutes and affords you amazing views of the various island chains below.

Flight- Tropic Air

GETTING FROM THE DOCKS TO YOUR HOTEL:

Ferry- The Ferry will drop you off at the cities main dock, in front of Licks (See Activities page for link on their drinks- we highly recommend having a beer at before venturing on). There are two ways form the docks to get your luggage to Coco Beach: (1) allow the Ferry porter to drive your luggage up to Coco Beach with you in a Golf Cart for a small tip; or (2) Take the water taxi from the main dock to Coco Beach's dock. The dock is where it says "Heart of San Pedro Town," or on the city map where the water taxis are located.

Flying- You will be dropped off at the local terminal in front of the Sunbreeze hotel. Directly across the street is the beach and 1 block up from that is the main docks where you can take the Golf Carts or Water Taxi. On the Map, the Sunbreeze hotel is your reference point to get to the main docks.

TRANSPORTATION IN AMBERGRIS CAYE:

Golf Cart Rentals- This is probably the best way to get around the island, and definitely the most fun! These are NOT your ordinary Golf Carts, each one is lifted with upgraded suspension and tires to handle the sandy terrain of Ambergris Caye. Golf Carts can be rented from $30/day and up. We are going to try and get a block of them reserved through either the hotel or a preferred operator. Drinking and driving is allowed, although we don't condone that behavior, their rule is "just don't get caught."
